About the project
ChandlerKBS was appointed as Programme Director on behalf of the Welsh Government and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council on this key development programme to regenerate the former Corus steelworks site into a multiple-use area offering educational, residential, leisure and business opportunities to the communities of Blaenau Gwent and the wider Heads of the Valley region. As Programme Director we were accountable for managing the successful delivery of a £170 million investment programme, reporting to a Programme Board consisting of Welsh Government and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council Directors.
The Ebbw Fawr Learning Community Primary Phase and Pen-y-Cwm Special School involved the design and construction of a 420 place school for 3-11 year olds linked to both a special school for 100 pupils aged 3-19 and an integrated children's centre. It has achieved BREEAM Excellent status and has also exceeded the 60% carbon reduction target set for the site (against 2006 Building Regulations).
The Ebbw Fawr Learning Community Secondary Phase involved the design and construction of a 1200 pupil secondary school at The Works. The school building achieved BREEAM Excellent status.
