London Luton Airport Operators Ltd

About the project

The £16.7 million project comprised of landside civil engineering works bringing improvements to access, airport highway and external pedestrian circulation and parking facilities which were required to support the terminal expansion project (Lot 2).

The works included dualling of the Airport Way approach road from Percival Way roundabout to the Central Terminal Area. Improvements to the short stay car park were required, including new road construction and resurfacing of the existing car park.  Improvements to the Central Terminal Area and public transport areas adjacent to the terminal were undertaken, including new coach and taxi drop off zone, new private vehicle drop off zone and provision of 18 dedicated bus parking bays. Construction of an enclosed pedestrian walkway over the access road adjacent to the Terminal was also completed.

ChandlerKBS provided full pre and post contract cost management services.

The construction phase of this project was challenging with several Client requested changes resulting in additional and omitted scope. External factors resulted in delays to the Contractors Programme. However, ChandlerKBS employed effective cost management techniques to successfully manage the budget for these works.
