News: Welsh Assembly Government office in Aberystwyth

This 7,600m2 building designed to accommodate 535 people is a naturally ventilated open plan office space designed to deliver a BREEAM excellent rating. The project is an example of good practice and innovation in sustainable public buildings.

Throughout the project period it has aspired to be an exemplar project in terms of design, delivery and collaborative working. The culture of partnering and collaborative working behaviours promoted throughout the project team encouraged positive challenges and stimulated innovative ideas. The completion of the project has been achieved within budget and on programme.

The building includes an enhanced reception area which will allow direct public access to the Welsh Assembly Government and its services. It is an exciting development for Aberystwyth and will accommodate staff from the Assembly's rural affairs, heritage and economy, transport departments, as well as staff from the Forestry Commission and Countryside Council for Wales.

Local craftsmen and suppliers were used wherever possible, as this development helped to bring the work of the government closer to the communities. It continues to employ local people wherever possible, as the site transforms from construction to a fully furbished, occupied and vibrant building.
