Case Study: Welsh Assembly Government Building, Aberystwyth
A state of the art new regional office for the Welsh Assembly Government in Aberystwyth, this building is an exemplar of sustainable building design and delivery and has been carefully planned to mitigate its impact on the environment. It provides a sustainable, energy efficient working environment for over 500 staff and has been designed to achieve an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.
Key environmentally friendly features include a natural ventilation system to regulate the buildings temperature and brise soleil to provide natural shading. Other features include a biomass boiler, solar panels for heating, intelligent lighting controls, rainwater harvesting system and a wind turbine for electricity generation.
Throughout the project period it has aspired to be an outstanding project in terms of design, delivery and collaborative working. The culture of partnering and collaborative working promoted throughout the project team encouraged positive challenges and stimulated innovative ideas. The completion of the project has been achieved within budget and on programme.
