Case Study: Toome and Limavady Bypass, Northern Ireland

The scheme entailed a new bypass for the village of Toome and a 3.6km bypass around the northern periphery of Limavady. The Toome bypass reduces congestion, pollution and noise of the 20,000 vehicles that pass through the village everyday on the A6 from Belfast to Londonderry. The new road redirects traffic away from the centre of the village. Included in the scheme is a landmark bridge structure across the River Bann.

The village of Limavady now benefits from a huge decrease in pollution and congestion as the 18,000 vehicles that pass through each day are redirected onto a single carriageway bypass.

Both contracts were run on a partnering basis, which is truly innovative as they are the first of their kind in Northern Ireland.
