Case Study: A1/N1 Newry to Dundalk link road, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland

ChandlerKBS provided procurement, partnering and cost advice for this €90 million scheme which was the first major cross border scheme with joint employers DRD Roads Service in Northern Ireland, National Roads Authority and Louth County Council in the Republic of Ireland.

The scheme provided a link between the A1 and N1 roads. It was procured using a target cost contract and was built by a joint venture company comprising SIAC from the Republic of Ireland and Ferrovial from Spain.

The scheme involved the construction of 14km of dual carriageway, including 12 bridges, 14 culverts and 1 pedestrian underpass which was completed in December 2007.
